Of apples and oranges, MCPs and feminists.

This post in written in response to mr mimosa's past and latest contributions to this blog with regard to male chauvinism.

Below is an excerpt of the article he used in one of his comments.

“To see a woman paid less than a man for the same work, but over here, we are not talking about fantasies, we are in the real world.”

Not that I think that MCPs are the scum of the earth, I do find certain aspects of their behavior and ideology very disturbing. While I have held my tongue previously, certain events have made me come realisation that silence is not always golden.

While it cannot be denied that discrimination occurs, surely it does not mean that we should condone it? Reality is only real if we act out what we believe in. It is real only if you make it real. For men to constantly brag about how great they are, and how women should always be one step behind them only serves to perpetuate such discrimination. Naturally, however, there will never be a willing party to give up power. Men want to promulgate such discrimination because of their selfish desire to remain in power…not for any other reason. Women at work are constantly faced with "glass ceilings". They are unable to progress any further not because they are incompetent, but because men don't want to share their power. Tell me, honestly, how many female MPs do we have? Considering the demographics, I would say women are ridiculously under-represented in the Cabinet.

Many men make the mistake of believing that the currently status quo is reasonable, good and hence should be maintained because they do not suffer the inconveniences and limitations in society that women do. Of course, if you are experiencing the good life, you will not want to change anything.

While it is easy for those in power to tell those underfoot that they should accept their lot in life and toe the line, it is exceedingly difficult for the trodden to accept it. Therefore, is it thus wrong for women to hanker after equality? I don’t think so. May I know how men are inordinately superior to women? Apart from the obvious physical differences, I really cannot see how they are better. Are they smarter? Not necessarily. In fact, it has been scientificaly proven that men carry the looks, while women carry the intelligence gene. So, really…what’s the hoo-ha about?

It’s not about rivalry. It’s about equality. Based on the word “Chauvinist” alone, the idea of equality has already been thrown out of the window.

Women do not hate men because they are different. We hate men who think themselves superior when they are not.
